The meaning of SSD solid state drive

The so-called SSD is solid state drive. Hard disks are generally divided into two types, one is mechanical hard disk and the other is solid state drive. Solid state drive is a hard disk drive made of solid-state electronic chip array. Generally speaking, they are composed of a control unit and a storage unit (FLASH chip). The interface specifications and definitions, functions and usage methods of solid state drives are the same as those of ordinary hard disks. The external dimensions are also consistent with ordinary hard disks. Its chip has a wide operating temperature range (-40~85℃).

Advantages of solid state drives

1. Fast read and write speed:

SSD does not use probes to read data, but uses logic circuits to read data, and the seek time is close to 0. The continuous read and write speed of SSD is very fast, and the commercially available products are generally above 500MB/s, while mechanical hard disks are generally only 200MB/s. The random read and write speed of mechanical hard disks has always been criticized, while the random read and write speed of SSD is very fast, making daily operations very smooth. The boot time of a computer using SSD can reach less than 10 seconds;

2. Good impact resistance and drop resistance:

As the name implies, the traditional mechanical hard disk is a mechanized structure composed of a disk, a rotating motor, a mechanical probe, etc. After falling, the probe is easy to dislocate, the motor is easy to be damaged, and the magnetic disk is easy to be scratched, and it is not drop-resistant. SSD is composed of flash memory particles welded on a circuit board, without mechanical parts, and has good shock resistance;

3. Low power consumption:

Mechanical structure and logic circuit, machinery requires higher energy;

4. Zero noise:

When the mechanical hard disk is working, the motor will drive the disk to rotate, and the probe will make noise when it contacts the disk. SDD is a pure logic circuit, no noise.
